Glorious Welsh Quilts - with Sandie Lush
14th & 15th September 2018 - two day course
10.30 am - 4.00 pm
In a two day class there is the opportunity to create larger designs, though not enough time to prepare and quilt anything other than a cushion. Should you wish to perfect your quilting skills as well as create a larger design, it is recommended you bring either the items listed below for making a cushion or a sample already marked up so that some time in class can be spent stitching.
18" x 18" square of top fabric - this can be soft calico, cotton sateen or a plain 100% cotton, preferably in a colour pale enough to see through. If you also want enough for the back of the cushion, you will need an 18" x 44" strip.
18" x 18" square of backing fabric of similar weight and weave.
18" x 18" square of wadding. Either Hobbs wool or a 2oz polyester (preferably Hobbs Polydown) as these are the easiest waddings to hand quilt.
Quilting thread at least 2 shades darker than top fabric.
Silk fabric packs are available at the Welsh Quilt Centre shop.
You will also need:
- 14" quilting hoop
- Thimbles (I use two!)
- Tacking thread and needle and scissors
- Fabric marker of your choice
- Quilting ruler, pencil and eraser
- Fine tip indelible black marker
- For larger designs you will also need Selotape (preferably 'magic' tape) and a roll of greaseproof / tracing paper
