& Welsh Quilts

CAFOD’s British representative in Addis Ababa, Bev Jones, happened to come to Jen’s shop in Llanybydder to buy a Welsh blanket. Jen mentioned that she was looking for a group of women interested in a Fair Trade project to hand-make recreations of some of Jen’s famous 19th century Welsh flannel geometric patchworks.

Later Bev contacted Jen; “I think I have found the group for you.” The women, working within The Daughters of Charity Convent in the province of Tigray, were embroidering religious textiles. The project wasn’t selling enough to support the whole group so they were looking to diversify or lose their work.
